Burroughs & Chapin
This piece was born from thinking back on memories and old feelings from my family’s move to South Carolina. I remember being scared that things wouldn’t go well. I thought about my room and my dresser. Why I chose my room before I first moved. The window of my new room looked over the street and into some shallow woods, like the window that I used to watch deer out of. The tree outside my window that on particularly windy days would knock. I remember the first cardboard sculpture I made - I took weeks on it making sure the edges lined up, yet the pieces were uneven. Some of the jewelry I made is still inside. I think back on the card from my aunt, from before I moved. Saying “It’s gonna be ok.” And it was.
